Portrait and Fantasy Photography in San Francisco California
California is filled with hidden gems in the most unexpected places. However, driving through Atherton and Menlo Park among the beautiful giant houses and tree lined streets you just know that there are some good spots there! And there is, you just have to explore a little! Continue on to see where exactly I took these photos and one of my favorite Bay Area parks!
“ I always have to have a few warm up photos to really get started, the first 10 poses usually have to be scrapped, so if you’re a photographer too, I always suggest going back to the same poses later and trying them again once everyone is warmed up!”
As some of you know, I have been a photographer for over ten years! And while I have gained sooo much knowledge, it is important to continuously expand my knowledge and intentionally improve my craft. So… I have taken art, graphic design, and photography classes. This has helped me to redefine my own editing and photography style in a way that I am actually really proud of!
This assignment was to shoot in the style of another photographer…. and of course I did the assignment, taking insporation from Irene Rudnyk…. But I think I strayed a little by going so cottage core!
The model, Tyra, is a good friend of mine, so it was really easy to get warmed up. And while I say that, I also have to admit that even then, I always have to have a few warm up photos to really get started, the first 10 poses usually have to be scrapped, so if you’re a photographer too, I always suggest going back to the same poses later and trying them again once everyone is warmed up!
I am pretty familiar with Holbrook - Palmer Park , which is just outside Menlo Park in the city of Atherton. This is a quiet and safe neighborhood on the peninsula of the San Francisco Bay Area. The park is cute with yearly and seasonal flowers and other plants. There is a play structure for bigger kids and a toddler play structure as well, so the entire family can have a lot of fun!
Because I was familiar with this park, we were able to get a lot of variety in backgrounds and foregrounds, But there is one little area with these pretty blue flowers on a giant bush that I just love so much in the center of the park, right next to the day care building.
Holbrook - Palmer park also has event spacing with art and historic photos covering the walls, wood flooring, and even a fire place. Although, I’m not sure if you can use the fireplace. This would be a beautiful event space, or even a wonderful location for your wedding!
