There's something incredibly special about photographing a couple in their element, especially when they embrace the little moments that make their relationship unique. For this Sacramento engagement session, we ventured to the Upper Sunrise area of the American River Parkway, where the warm golden light, peaceful river, and surrounding greenery created the perfect backdrop for an intimate afternoon together.
Candid Engagement Photography: Capturing Love Naturally
When planning their engagement session, this couple expressed that they preferred candid photographs filled with movement and genuine emotion rather than traditional, heavily posed portraits. They wanted their photos to feel natural, romantic, and, most importantly, like themselves.
With that in mind, we approached their session with an emphasis on connection rather than perfection. Instead of spending our time arranging every little detail, I encouraged them to interact naturally, hold each other close, share a few kisses, and simply enjoy being together.
The result was a collection of photographs filled with soft smiles, tender embraces, and those beautiful in-between moments that can sometimes go unnoticed.
One of my favorite things about candid engagement photography is that it allows couples to focus on each other rather than the camera. The little gestures, spontaneous laughter, and subtle expressions often become the most meaningful images.
Golden Hour at the American River Parkway
Located along the American River in the Sacramento area, the Upper Sunrise Recreation Area offers a beautiful combination of riverside scenery, mature trees, and natural textures.
As the sunlight filtered through the trees and reflected off the water, it created a warm, golden atmosphere that complemented the couple's romantic and relaxed energy.
