Beach Photoshoot outfits; Where to shop and how to prep

After having lead and photographed many beach swimwear photoshoots, I have learned what to wear, where to buy it, and how to prep for beach photoshoots, especially in the Bay Area!

What to wear

Figuring out what to wear to your photoshoot can be really hard! Here are some things I like to consider when planning a photoshoot and what to wear:

  1. Decide how much skin you are comfortable showing

  2. figure out your body shape to decide on a cut that will be most flattering on you

  3. Choose colors that look best on you; brighten your face and flatter your skintone

  4. ONLY wear something you are comfortable and feel good in!

I have photographed many women in all sorts of outfits on the beach! Everything from lingerie to long flowy dresses! It’s up to you and your comfort level! If a photographer is pushing you to do anything you are comfortable with, they are not the right photographer for you!

Where to buy it

Finding the best outfit for you can be super hard! But I have a few favorite places to buy swimwear, dresses, and beach items to make your photoshoot and beach experience even better!

Pink Blush

Pink Blush is a brand I will always reccomend! They have a lot of flowy dress options in a large range of sizes and styles including maternity and plus size!

Bonus: Use code thatbeachyphotographer25 for 25% off your order any time of the year!

That Beachy Photographer

This may be obvious, or not, but I also have a wide variety of swimwear, beach accessories, towels, and bags available for purchase! Many of these items are made of recycled material and designed by me! Just visit the Beach Shop!

How to prep

Prepping for a beach photoshoot can be confusing. You don’t want to bring too much or too little! So here are some of my best tips for beach photoshoots, weather that be a sexy swimwear shoot or an engagement or maternity photoshoot!

  • Bring extra Towels

    • towels can easily be washed! You can pack extras in your car and use to wipe off your feet and body before hopping in the car

    • towels can be used to create a privacy screen for easy changing so you don’t have to step on a bathroom floor, or if there is no bathroom available!

  • Go bra-less and wear loose clothing; this might sound weird, but if you are showing a lot of skin it could be really important

    • bras create strap line and indents in your skin

    • this also goes for any elastic bands or tight clothing that you might want to wear on the way to your photoshoot! It's better not to risk weird lines on your skin for your photoshoot unless you are more covered!

  • bring/wear layers

    • bring layers to throw on or take off!

    • moving around during your photoshoot will make you warmer than expected, so you may want to wear lighter clothing and layers so you can be comfortable

  • bring water and snacks

    • While I always try to bring extra water, you may also want to bring your own so you can stay hydrated during your photoshoot

    • you will be moving a lot more than you expect and using muscles you aren’t used to utilizing, so you might want to bring snacks for after your photoshoot so you can re-fuel!

Portrait and Fantasy Photography in San Francisco California

California is filled with hidden gems in the most unexpected places. However, driving through Atherton and Menlo Park among the beautiful giant houses and tree lined streets you just know that there are some good spots there! And there is, you just have to explore a little! Continue on to see where exactly I took these photos and one of my favorite Bay Area parks!

I always have to have a few warm up photos to really get started, the first 10 poses usually have to be scrapped, so if you’re a photographer too, I always suggest going back to the same poses later and trying them again once everyone is warmed up!

As some of you know, I have been a photographer for over ten years! And while I have gained sooo much knowledge, it is important to continuously expand my knowledge and intentionally improve my craft. So… I have taken art, graphic design, and photography classes. This has helped me to redefine my own editing and photography style in a way that I am actually really proud of!

This assignment was to shoot in the style of another photographer…. and of course I did the assignment, taking insporation from Irene Rudnyk…. But I think I strayed a little by going so cottage core!

The model, Tyra, is a good friend of mine, so it was really easy to get warmed up. And while I say that, I also have to admit that even then, I always have to have a few warm up photos to really get started, the first 10 poses usually have to be scrapped, so if you’re a photographer too, I always suggest going back to the same poses later and trying them again once everyone is warmed up!

I am pretty familiar with Holbrook - Palmer Park , which is just outside Menlo Park in the city of Atherton. This is a quiet and safe neighborhood on the peninsula of the San Francisco Bay Area. The park is cute with yearly and seasonal flowers and other plants. There is a play structure for bigger kids and a toddler play structure as well, so the entire family can have a lot of fun!

Because I was familiar with this park, we were able to get a lot of variety in backgrounds and foregrounds, But there is one little area with these pretty blue flowers on a giant bush that I just love so much in the center of the park, right next to the day care building.

Holbrook - Palmer park also has event spacing with art and historic photos covering the walls, wood flooring, and even a fire place. Although, I’m not sure if you can use the fireplace. This would be a beautiful event space, or even a wonderful location for your wedding!

If you found this helpful, please consider subscribing to our newsletter for more updates and information about more beautiful parks like this one in the Bay Area!

How to plan your surprise proposal

Planning your proposal is difficult! You want it to be a surprise but keeping it a surprise is one of the hardest things. Your partner knows you so well and lying isn’t your thing! So here are some of my favorite tips on how to propose and keep it a secret!

Step 1.

Decide on a proposal date

Deciding on a date might feel daunting, but trust me, it’s not. It is, however, really important!

Key reasons to plan the date out ahead of time:

  • You will have time to hire a photographer if you like

  • You are giving yourself time to pick out rings/find the very best one

  • You can plan on proposing on a special date

  • You have time to make reservations if needed

  • You can scope out the perfect location

Perhaps you already have the perfect date and location in mind, you will still need to figure out booking your photographer, how to do it, ask off work if necessary. There is obviously even more reasons to pick a date ahead of time and I’m sure you could think of more!

Step 2.

Picking a location to propose

I think this one is probably obvious to you, but let’s go over it anyway!

How to pick out your location:

  • Think of spots your partner particularly loves

  • Think of spots that are important to the two of you, weather it be your first date location or a spot you two love to visit often

  • Where does your partner love to visit? The beach, a particular park, or even a state?

  • A beautiful place your partner has been begging to go to!

Step 3.

Picking the right ring to propose

This is definitely something I think you should be thinking about for as long as you know that you want to marry the person you’re with! The reason being that you can start to get an idea for the type of ring they might like to have long before you even propose and therefore making it a bit easier to keep it a secret that you are going to propose. Make sure that rings are a regular topic, it’s good for your partner to know you’re interested in marrying them anyway!

Questions to ask:

  • What materials/color metals does your love like? Gold, rose gold, Silver, or something less traditional

  • What cut(s) do they like for the stone?

  • What type of stone do they want; a traditional diamond, their birth stone, or something different?

  • Do they like simple or intricate?

  • What style do they like: modern, vintage, art deco, etc?

  • Do they want something big or dainty?

Step 4.

Hiring vendors for your engagement

Maybe you have thought of some of these ideas, maybe you haven’t, either way here’s a list of ideas and vendors for you to check out!

Also, Check out more of my vendor reccomendations!

Beach wedding: What to Wear as the Groom

A Groom's Guide to Wedding Attire: What to Wear on Your Big Day

Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and how you present yourself is a key part of making the day memorable. While much attention is often given to the bride’s dress, the groom’s attire is equally important. Whether you're having a beach ceremony, a black-tie event, or something in between, what you wear should reflect both your personal style and the overall vibe of the wedding. Here’s a guide to help you choose the perfect outfit for your big day.

1. Consider the Wedding Theme and Venue

The first step in deciding what to wear is to consider the overall theme and location of your wedding. Your attire should complement the setting and formality of the event. Here’s how to match your outfit to different wedding types:

  • Beach Wedding: For a relaxed, beachside ceremony, lightweight fabrics like linen or cotton are ideal. A light-colored suit or even a pair of tailored shorts with a crisp shirt can look stylish and appropriate. Consider going without a tie for a more casual look, and opt for loafers or even barefoot sandals if you’re on the sand.

  • Formal Wedding: If your wedding is a black-tie or formal affair, a classic tuxedo is a must. Stick to traditional colors like black or midnight blue, paired with a white dress shirt and a black bow tie. Patent leather shoes and cufflinks will complete the look, adding an elegant touch.

  • Rustic or Outdoor Wedding: For a rustic or garden wedding, a tweed or wool suit in earthy tones like brown, green, or gray can be a great choice. Pair it with a patterned tie or bow tie to add some personality. Don’t forget about footwear—boots or brogues can work well in this setting.

  • Casual or Boho Wedding: For a more laid-back or bohemian wedding, consider a tailored suit in a light fabric like cotton or linen, or even a well-fitted vest with dress pants. You can play with colors and patterns, perhaps opting for a pastel suit or a floral tie to reflect the relaxed vibe.

2. Choose the Right Fit

No matter what style of suit or attire you choose, the fit is crucial. A well-fitted suit can make a huge difference in your overall appearance and comfort on your wedding day. Here’s what to look for:

  • Jacket: The shoulders should fit snugly but comfortably, with the seams sitting right at the edge of your shoulders. The jacket should taper slightly at the waist to create a flattering silhouette.

  • Pants: Your pants should sit comfortably at your waist without needing a belt to hold them up. The length should break just above your shoes for a clean, modern look.

  • Shirt: Ensure your dress shirt fits well around the neck without being too tight, and that the sleeves end just above your wrist, allowing a bit of cuff to show under your jacket.

Consider getting your suit tailored or custom-made for the perfect fit, especially if you’re opting for a more formal or traditional look.

3. Coordinate with the Bride and Wedding Party

While your attire should reflect your style, it’s also important to coordinate with your bride and the wedding party to ensure a cohesive look. Here are some tips:

  • Color Coordination: Choose colors that complement the bride’s dress and the overall color scheme of the wedding. If the bridesmaids are wearing a specific color, consider incorporating a similar shade into your tie, pocket square, or boutonniere.

  • Matching the Groomsmen: Decide whether you want to match your groomsmen exactly or differentiate your outfit slightly. As the groom, you might choose a different tie, a unique boutonniere, or a slightly different shade of suit to stand out while still coordinating with the wedding party.

4. Accessorize Thoughtfully

The right accessories can elevate your wedding day look and add a touch of personality. Here are some key accessories to consider:

  • Tie or Bow Tie: Whether you choose a traditional tie or a bow tie, make sure it complements your suit and the overall style of the wedding. You can opt for classic colors or patterns, or choose something bolder if it fits your personality.

  • Pocket Square: A pocket square adds a dash of sophistication to your look. Choose a color or pattern that complements your tie or adds a bit of contrast.

  • Boutonniere: A small flower or boutonniere pinned to your lapel can tie your look into the wedding theme and coordinate with the bride’s bouquet.

  • Cufflinks: If you’re wearing a formal shirt with French cuffs, cufflinks are a must. They’re a great opportunity to add a personal touch—consider using custom cufflinks that reflect your hobbies, interests, or initials.

  • Watch: A classic wristwatch is a timeless accessory for your wedding day. Choose a watch that’s elegant and matches the formality of your attire.

5. Consider the Weather

The weather can play a big role in your comfort on your wedding day, especially if you’re having an outdoor or beach wedding. Here’s how to prepare:

  • Warm Weather: For hot climates, opt for lighter fabrics like linen or cotton and lighter colors that reflect the sun. Consider going without a jacket or choosing a short-sleeved shirt to stay cool.

  • Cool Weather: If your wedding is during cooler months, consider layering with a waistcoat or choosing a suit in a heavier fabric like wool. Don’t forget to bring an overcoat or jacket for outdoor photos or events.

  • Rain: If there’s a chance of rain, be prepared with an umbrella or a water-resistant overcoat. Make sure your shoes are weather-appropriate to avoid soggy feet.

6. Don't Forget Grooming and Final Touches

Looking your best on your wedding day isn’t just about what you wear—it’s also about how you present yourself. Here are some final grooming tips:

  • Hair: Get a fresh haircut a week before the wedding, giving it time to settle but still look sharp. On the day of the wedding, style your hair with a product that will hold up throughout the day.

  • Facial Hair: Whether you’re clean-shaven or rocking a beard, make sure your facial hair is well-groomed. Consider a professional shave or trim the day before to ensure a polished look.

  • Skin Care: Hydrate your skin leading up to the wedding, and consider using a light moisturizer or a matte powder on the day to avoid any unwanted shine in photos.

Conclusion

Choosing what to wear on your wedding day is an opportunity to express your style while honoring the significance of the occasion. By considering the theme, location, and fit, and coordinating with the wedding party, you’ll look and feel your best as you stand at the altar. Remember, your attire should not only be stylish but also comfortable, allowing you to fully enjoy every moment of your special day.

Whether you’re going for a classic tuxedo, a relaxed beach ensemble, or something uniquely you, the key is to wear it with confidence. Ready to finalize your wedding day look? Let’s work together to make sure you’re dressed to impress as you embark on this new chapter of your life!

Choosing your proposal location: Beaches

Your nor-cal and bay area guide to choosing the best beach for you to propose to the love of your life at. Great for those silicon valley guys who have only one hiking spot and spend the rest of their time watching the stock markets or rock climbing at the gym. All these locations are available on your google or apple maps by searching the title!

Step 1.

Determine what type of beach location you want.

  • surrounded by forest

  • rock formations

  • views of the golden gate bridge

  • a spot that’s special to the two of you

  • board walk vibes

  • local favorite

  • sand for miles

Step 2.

Pick your date

Choosing the holidays, spring, or summer can really change how each of these locations look!

  • Holidays and winter provide a more dramatic vibe with the constant overcast weather, but is great for the artsy couple or great for making the holidays even more special

  • late spring: great for the super bloom that happens throughout california, weather is a bit more unpredictable, but the flowers are worth it!

  • late summer has beatiful sunsets and the most golden golden hours

Step 3.

Pick your photographer.

Here’s my guide to choosing the right photographer.

Or book your engagement session now!

locations

San Francisco

China Beach

China Beach in San Francisco is a great proposal location because it has a view of the golden gate bridge, a mini hike, rock formations to hide next to or behind if you don’t want an audience, free parking, and is a location mostly known by locals, so you won’t have tourists photobombing you every two seconds!

My recommendation is to walk down the stairs and head to the left as you’re facing the water and head down the wooden stairs that lead to the beach. If you don’t want to risk getting wet, there is a rooftop overlooking the water and golden gate bridge just above the old restrooms and info center. It’s pretty obvious, it’s a white building down the first set of stairs.

Fort Funston

This is a free location as well with a large parking lot, views of coastal flowers, and cliff side views of the ocean. If you can handle the steep route down and back up, I highly recommend going down to the beach, which is miles long and great for a mini adventure.

Half Moon Bay Area

Half Moon Bay State Beach (Francis Beach Camp Ground Parking)

This location has miles of beach to walk, multiple restrooms, and lots of parking. If you don’t mind walking you can park down the road, if you want a little less of a walk, there is $10 parking close to the restrooms and right in front of the beach entrance! Plus there are small cliff side views and mountains in the distance!

Pacifica Municipal Pier and Mori Point

You can aim for one or the other, but the two are a great romantic combo! Mori point in the spring is a great uphill hike that leads to a super bloom overlooking the water.

The entire area has a very board walk vibe without the crowds.

On the pier, you will find fishermen passed sunset, but they will encourage you to have fun, play music for you, and and cheer you on when you propose or even kiss!

What to Wear to a Beach Wedding

What to Wear to a Beach Wedding: A Guide for Guests

Receiving an invitation to a beach wedding is always exciting—there’s something magical about celebrating love with the sun, sand, and sea as the backdrop. But when it comes to deciding what to wear, guests often find themselves wondering how to strike the perfect balance between looking stylish and staying comfortable in the beach environment. Here’s your ultimate guide to choosing the right attire for a beach wedding, ensuring you look fabulous while respecting the laid-back vibe of the seaside setting.

1. Understand the Dress Code

Before you start planning your outfit, it’s important to check the wedding invitation or website for any specific dress code instructions. Beach weddings can range from casual to semi-formal or even formal, so knowing the expected attire will help you make the right choice. Here are some common dress codes and what they mean:

  • Casual: Think sundresses for women and light linen pants or shorts with a button-down shirt for men. Footwear can be sandals or even barefoot, depending on the venue.

  • Beach Formal: For women, this could mean a more elegant sundress, maxi dress, or a chic cocktail dress. Men might opt for a lightweight suit or dress pants with a collared shirt. Dressy sandals or wedges for women and loafers or dress shoes for men are appropriate.

  • Semi-Formal: Women can wear a flowy cocktail dress or a dressy jumpsuit, while men should consider a lightweight suit or dress pants with a blazer. Heels may sink in the sand, so choose wedges or dressy flats.

2. Choose Breathable Fabrics

The beach environment calls for breathable, lightweight fabrics that will keep you cool and comfortable. Look for materials like cotton, linen, chiffon, and silk blends that allow air to circulate and won’t cling to your skin in the heat.

Avoid heavy fabrics like wool, satin, or velvet, as these can be uncomfortable in warm, humid conditions. Instead, opt for fabrics that move with you and feel light against your skin, ensuring you stay cool while looking effortlessly chic.

3. Consider the Colors and Patterns

Beach weddings are the perfect occasion to play with colors and patterns. Light, airy colors like pastels, soft blues, pinks, and earth tones work beautifully in a beach setting, blending harmoniously with the natural surroundings. Floral patterns, tropical prints, or even subtle stripes can add a playful touch to your outfit.

Avoid wearing white or ivory, as these colors are traditionally reserved for the bride. Similarly, black can feel too heavy for a daytime beach wedding, so it’s better to choose something lighter and more vibrant.

4. Opt for Practical Footwear

One of the biggest challenges of dressing for a beach wedding is choosing the right footwear. Walking on sand can be tricky, so stilettos and pointy heels are generally not the best choice. Instead, opt for:

  • Wedges: Wedges offer height while providing stability on sand, making them a great option for women.

  • Sandals: Flat or low-heeled sandals are perfect for casual or beach formal dress codes. Look for dressy versions with embellishments or metallic finishes to elevate your look.

  • Espadrilles: These are a stylish and comfortable choice for both men and women, offering a more polished look than flip-flops but still beach-appropriate.

  • Barefoot Sandals: If the wedding is particularly relaxed or you know the bride and groom are embracing the barefoot vibe, consider barefoot sandals—a decorative, foot-hugging accessory that offers the feel of being barefoot with a touch of elegance.

5. Prepare for the Elements

The beach is a beautiful setting, but it can also present a few challenges like wind, sun, and possibly cooler evening temperatures. Here are a few tips to ensure you’re prepared:

  • Bring a Light Wrap or Shawl: If the wedding extends into the evening, temperatures can drop, especially by the water. A light wrap, shawl, or cardigan can keep you warm without detracting from your outfit.

  • Sun Protection: The sun can be intense on the beach, so don’t forget to wear sunscreen. A chic wide-brimmed hat or a pair of stylish sunglasses can also provide protection while adding to your beach wedding look.

  • Wind-Proof Your Outfit: Beach weddings are often breezy, so avoid lightweight dresses or skirts that could easily get blown around. Consider wearing a dress with a fitted waist or bring along some fashion tape to keep things in place.

6. Accessorize Thoughtfully

Accessories can elevate your beach wedding outfit, but less is often more in this setting. Here are a few ideas:

  • Jewelry: Choose simple, elegant pieces that won’t feel too heavy or out of place in a casual, outdoor setting. Think delicate necklaces, bangles, or earrings. Avoid heavy metals that could get hot in the sun.

  • Bags: A small clutch or crossbody bag is perfect for carrying essentials like sunscreen, lip balm, and sunglasses. Opt for a material that matches the beach vibe, like straw, canvas, or a light metallic finish.

  • Hair: Consider the wind when planning your hairstyle. Loose waves, braids, or a chic updo can keep your hair in place while complementing the beachy atmosphere.

7. Respect the Environment

Remember that you’re a guest at someone’s special day, and part of that means respecting the environment. If you’re wearing shoes, make sure they’re clean and sand-friendly. Avoid clothing with too many embellishments that could easily snag or get dirty. And if you’re using any products like sunscreen or bug spray, opt for reef-safe, eco-friendly versions to help protect the beach environment.

Conclusion

Attending a beach wedding is a unique experience that blends the joy of celebrating love with the beauty of the ocean. By choosing the right outfit, you can look stylish while staying comfortable in the sand and sun. Keep the dress code in mind, opt for breathable fabrics, and don’t forget practical footwear and accessories that suit the beach setting.

With these tips, you’ll be perfectly dressed to enjoy the day and celebrate the happy couple in style. Ready to plan your beach wedding look? Whether you need inspiration or advice on beach wedding attire, I’m here to help you create the perfect seaside ensemble!

Senior Portrait Season: your graduation photographer

Senior portraits are a right of passage weather you are graduating high school and diving into the world of adulthood or if you are graduating college and stepping into your first career focused job. Finding the right photographer is essential to you loving the outcome of your celebratory photoshoot! Here are some tips to finding the photographer for you and your graduation photos!

Location

You may have found this blog post through searching up “graduation photographer” or adding in your location to that search! You may have just stumbled upon this because you have been searching up Grad photo outfit ideas, but the algorithm is working in your favor either way!

Finding a photographer in your area will help you save $$$! This is because most photographers have a mile radius that they are willing to travel to without charging extra for travel fees.

For example, to find me and my photogaphy services you would have to type in “Bay Area photographer” or “San Francisco Photographer” to stumble across my instagram or website!

Style

Style is another important factor to finding the photographer who will deliver images that you and your family love! A photographer’s style is everything from the way they take your photos to the way they edit them! Some ways you might describe my style is dreamy, warm, romantic, and fun! My style is considered this because I add a lot of movement, add flowers and leaves into the foreground, and edit to make your skin look golden and tan!

Price

You may or may not be concerned with pricing, but this is an important factor that may sway you, your parents, or guardians to book or not. In the Bay Area, you will find a large range of prices from $100 to over $1,000.

Typically, you can assume that the lower the price, the less experience a photographer has, but that’s not always the case, so it’s important to check out their portfolio before you make a decision.

Some photographers, like me, offer payment plans leading up to the session or even up until before you receive your photos!

Portfolio

Perhaps you have considered this, maybe you haven’t; you want to check out your potential photographers portfolio in order to determine if you like their work, if they have good work, and if you like their style. Many clients book with photographers based of the style or niche that they have!

Booking

The booking process should be easy and make sense. You may also want to consider only working with a photographer who is willing to hop on a zoom consultation.

If you’re ready to book your session, reach out now!

Never Ending Summer of Self Love

Embrace Self-Love with Beach Boudoir/Swimwear Photoshoots: The Must-Do Summer Activity for Next Year

Summer is a season of sunshine, adventure, and, most importantly, self-love. As we find ourselves in the warm embrace of the sun and the gentle caress of the ocean breeze, there’s no better time to celebrate who we are, exactly as we are. Enter the beach boudoir and swimwear photoshoot—the ultimate summer activity that combines the joy of self-discovery with the beauty of nature. If you're planning next summer’s calendar, this is one experience you absolutely must include.

Why Beach Boudoir/Swimwear Photoshoots Are the Ultimate Self-Love Experience

Self-love is a journey, and there’s no better way to honor that journey than by capturing it through photography. Beach boudoir and swimwear photoshoots offer a unique opportunity to see yourself in a new light—literally and figuratively. The combination of natural light, the expansive ocean, and the intimacy of boudoir photography creates a space where you can fully embrace your true self.

These shoots are not just about capturing beautiful images; they’re about celebrating your body, your confidence, and your individuality. In a world that often pressures us to conform to certain standards, a beach boudoir shoot is a powerful reminder that you are enough, just as you are. It’s a moment of pure self-appreciation, immortalized in photos that you can cherish forever.

The Perfect Addition to Your Summer Calendar

When planning your summer activities, think beyond the usual beach trips and barbecues. A beach boudoir/swimwear photoshoot is an experience that blends fun, relaxation, and a deep sense of self-connection. It’s an activity that allows you to explore your own beauty in the most natural setting, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the ocean.

Imagine spending a day by the beach, not just soaking up the sun, but also soaking in the confidence that comes with a professional photoshoot. The sound of the waves, the feel of the sand beneath your feet, and the warmth of the sun on your skin all contribute to an environment that feels both relaxing and invigorating. It’s a day dedicated entirely to you—a day to celebrate the person you’ve become.

Why It’s the Best Summer Activity

Unlike other summer activities that come and go, the experience of a beach boudoir or swimwear photoshoot stays with you long after the season ends. It’s a celebration of self-love that you can look back on, reminding you of your strength and beauty whenever you need it. Plus, the photos make for incredible keepsakes that capture not just how you looked, but how you felt in that moment—confident, empowered, and completely yourself.

This trend is all about embracing your body and loving yourself as you are, which aligns perfectly with the spirit of summer—a time for freedom, joy, and self-expression. Adding a beach boudoir shoot to your summer calendar is a way to prioritize yourself in a season that’s all about living life to the fullest.

How to Make the Most of Your Shoot

If you're considering adding a beach boudoir/swimwear photoshoot to your summer plans, here are a few tips to make the experience unforgettable:

  1. Plan Ahead: Summer days can be busy, so be sure to schedule your shoot in advance to secure the best time for lighting and location.

  2. Choose Outfits That Reflect You: Whether it’s a favorite swimsuit or a flowy beach cover-up, choose outfits that make you feel amazing and express your personality.

  3. Embrace the Moment: The best photos come when you’re relaxed and enjoying yourself. Let go of any insecurities and focus on the beauty of the moment.

  4. Work with a Photographer You Trust: A professional photographer who specializes in boudoir and swimwear can guide you through poses and help you feel comfortable in front of the camera.

Conclusion

Next summer, as you plan your adventures and activities, make sure to include a beach boudoir/swimwear photoshoot on your calendar. It’s not just a trend—it’s a transformative experience that celebrates the most important thing of all: self-love. Let the sun, sand, and sea be your backdrop as you embrace your beauty, inside and out. This is more than just a photoshoot; it’s a summer memory that you’ll carry with you long after the season has passed.

So, as you start to dream of next summer, remember to save a day for yourself—a day to celebrate who you are and capture that essence in a way that’s truly unforgettable.

3 Reasons to Uninvite Someone From Your Wedding

There’s ALWAYS someone brides wish they hadn’t invited to their wedding… here’s my top 3 rules of who NOT to invite to your wedding while planning. They may be controversial, but worth considering to keep your own peace on your wedding day!

A stunning bridal party poses at the iconic Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, blending timeless elegance with modern black-and-gold sophistication.

No. 1 Rule:

Don’t Invite anyone you wouldn’t want a photo with on your big day!

  • Create a “shot list” a list of people you NEED one on one photos or group photos with

  • Think of people you wish you had more photos with

  • Think of people who in 20 years when they may or may not be alive, you may or may not talk anymore, or if they aren’t well anymore, you can look back and remember them through photos

Rule no. 2:

Don’t invite anyone who might make your day more stressful!

  • The aunt who drinks too much or starts drama

  • The cousin who only shows up when it benefits them

  • The family friend who you think “why were they invited”

  • The “friend” who makes everything about them.

Rule no. 3:

Un-invite people who say:

  • “Could you make an acception for me?”

Choosing the Perfect Dress for your Beach wedding

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Perfect Beach Wedding Dress

Planning a beach wedding is all about embracing the beauty of nature, the romance of the ocean, and the relaxed, carefree vibe that comes with saying "I do" by the sea. One of the most exciting (and sometimes challenging) parts of planning your beach wedding is choosing the perfect dress. Unlike traditional wedding venues, a beach setting offers unique considerations that can influence your choice of gown. Here’s a guide to help you find the beach wedding dress of your dreams.

1. Embrace Light and Airy Fabrics

When it comes to beach weddings, the fabric of your dress is key. The best beach wedding dresses are made from light, breathable materials that will keep you cool and comfortable, even in warm weather. Consider fabrics like chiffon, organza, tulle, or lightweight lace that flow beautifully in the ocean breeze and won’t weigh you down.

Avoid heavy fabrics like satin or brocade, which can feel too hot and cumbersome for a beach setting. Instead, opt for materials that move with you, creating an effortless, ethereal look as you walk down the sandy aisle.

2. Choose a Style That Suits the Setting

The relaxed atmosphere of a beach wedding calls for a dress that complements the environment. While ball gowns with long trains are stunning, they might not be the most practical choice for a beach ceremony. Instead, consider these styles:

  • A-Line Dresses: This classic silhouette is flattering on many body types and provides a flowing, elegant look that suits the beach perfectly.

  • Sheath Dresses: For a sleek, modern look, a sheath dress can be a great option. It’s simple, sophisticated, and easy to move in—ideal for a beach setting.

  • Bohemian Styles: If your beach wedding has a boho vibe, consider a dress with lace details, off-the-shoulder sleeves, or a relaxed fit. These elements create a laid-back, romantic look that’s perfect for a seaside celebration.

  • Tea-Length Dresses: A shorter, tea-length dress can be a fun and practical choice, especially if you plan to walk barefoot in the sand. It’s also a great option for showcasing stylish sandals or barefoot jewelry.

3. Think About the Color Palette

While traditional white or ivory dresses are always a beautiful choice, a beach wedding offers the opportunity to explore a wider color palette. Soft pastels, blush tones, or even light blue or champagne can add a unique and personal touch to your look, complementing the natural colors of the ocean and sand.

If you’re drawn to more vibrant colors, consider incorporating them into your accessories, such as a sash, floral crown, or jewelry, to add a pop of personality while keeping the overall look cohesive with the beach theme.

4. Consider Practicality: Length and Train

When selecting a beach wedding dress, practicality is just as important as style. Walking through sand can be tricky, especially if you’re wearing a long, heavy gown. Consider dresses with shorter hemlines or a detachable train that you can remove after the ceremony for easier movement.

If you do opt for a dress with a train, make sure it’s a manageable length, and consider a bustle or loop that allows you to lift the train off the ground during the reception. This way, you can enjoy your day without worrying about dragging your dress through the sand.

5. Pay Attention to the Details

The details of your dress can make all the difference in creating the perfect beach wedding look. Consider elements that add to the overall beachy vibe:

  • Lace and Embroidery: Delicate lace patterns, especially those with floral or seaside motifs, can enhance the romantic, natural feel of a beach wedding.

  • Backless or Off-the-Shoulder Designs: These styles not only look stunning but also help keep you cool in the sun. A backless dress, in particular, can add a touch of drama and elegance.

  • Flowing Sleeves or Capes: Light, flowing sleeves or a cape that catches the ocean breeze can create a beautiful, ethereal effect in your photos.

6. Don’t Forget About the Wind

Beaches are known for their breezes, and while a light wind can create beautiful movement in your dress, you’ll want to be prepared for stronger gusts. To avoid any wardrobe malfunctions, consider a dress that’s fitted at the top, especially if you’re opting for a strapless or off-the-shoulder style. This will help keep everything in place while still allowing the skirt to flow freely.

7. Accessorize Thoughtfully

The right accessories can enhance your beach wedding dress without overpowering it. Consider the following:

  • Veil or Hair Accessories: If you’re wearing a veil, choose a lightweight option that won’t get caught in the wind. Alternatively, a floral crown, hair vine, or simple hairpins can add a touch of elegance without the hassle of managing a veil.

  • Footwear: Many brides choose to go barefoot for a beach wedding, which can add to the relaxed, natural feel. If you prefer footwear, opt for flat sandals or barefoot sandals that won’t sink into the sand.

  • Jewelry: Keep it simple and elegant. Delicate pieces that reflect the ocean, like pearls or shells, can tie your look together without being too heavy or distracting.

8. Test Your Dress in the Elements

Before the big day, it’s a good idea to do a trial run with your dress in a similar outdoor setting. Walk around in it, sit, and see how it moves with you. This will give you a feel for how the dress will perform on the beach and allow you to make any necessary adjustments, such as altering the hemline or securing loose elements.

Conclusion

Choosing the perfect beach wedding dress is all about finding a balance between style, comfort, and practicality. By selecting a dress that complements the natural beauty of your beach setting, you’ll not only look stunning but also feel at ease as you say "I do" with the sand between your toes and the ocean as your backdrop.

Whether you’re drawn to a bohemian look, a sleek modern style, or a classic silhouette, there’s a beach wedding dress out there that’s perfect for you. Take your time, try on different styles, and most importantly, choose a dress that makes you feel beautiful and confident on your special day.

Self Love Photoshoot at the Beach: Pescadero California

A Captivating Photoshoot at Bean Hollow State Beach, California

Nestled along the rugged coastline of California, Bean Hollow State Beach is a hidden gem that offers a stunning backdrop for any photoshoot. Recently, I had the privilege of capturing a series of images at this breathtaking location, working with a model whose striking tattoos and ethereal presence perfectly complemented the raw beauty of the beach. The combination of dramatic rock formations, the soft golden sand, and the serene waves created a setting that was both powerful and serene—a perfect match for the theme of this shoot.

The Location: Bean Hollow State Beach

Bean Hollow State Beach, located in San Mateo County, is known for its unique rock formations, tide pools, and pebble-strewn sands. Unlike more crowded beaches, Bean Hollow offers a sense of seclusion and intimacy, making it an ideal spot for a photoshoot that aims to capture the natural beauty of both the model and the landscape.

The beach’s rocky outcrops provided a dynamic contrast to the model’s flowing green dress, creating a sense of movement and grace against the rugged backdrop. The overcast sky lent a soft, diffused light that highlighted the model’s intricate tattoos, adding depth and texture to the images.

The Photoshoot: Celebrating Strength and Natural Beauty

This photoshoot was designed to celebrate the strength, individuality, and natural beauty of the model. Her tattoos, which tell stories of personal significance, were a focal point of the shoot, symbolizing resilience and self-expression. The choice of Bean Hollow State Beach as the location was intentional—it’s a place where the power of nature is on full display, yet there’s a quiet serenity that invites introspection and connection with the environment.

The model’s green dress was chosen for its earthy tones, which blended beautifully with the natural surroundings. The dress’s flowing silhouette allowed for movement and freedom, echoing the fluidity of the ocean waves. Each pose was carefully selected to showcase the model’s form and the intricate details of her tattoos, while also capturing the raw energy of the beach.

In one of the standout images, the model stands against a rock, her hands resting lightly on the rough surface as she gazes out to sea. The composition of the shot emphasizes the contrast between the strength of the rock and the softness of her form, creating a powerful visual metaphor for the balance between strength and vulnerability.

The Experience: Connecting with Nature

One of the most rewarding aspects of this photoshoot was the deep connection to nature that both the model and I felt throughout the session. Bean Hollow State Beach, with its untouched beauty and peaceful atmosphere, provided the perfect setting for a shoot that was as much about the experience as it was about the final images.

As we moved through the beach, we were able to explore different perspectives—capturing the model standing tall against the rocks, reclining on the sand, and interacting with the water. The sound of the waves and the feel of the sand beneath our feet added an element of grounding to the shoot, reminding us of the power and beauty of the natural world.

The Final Images: A Fusion of Art and Nature

The final images from this photoshoot are a testament to the fusion of art and nature. Each photograph tells a story—not just of the model’s strength and beauty, but also of the connection between human expression and the environment. The muted tones of the beach and the vibrant colors of the model’s tattoos create a striking contrast, while the soft, diffused light adds an almost dreamlike quality to the images.

The textures of the rocks, the fluidity of the dress, and the ever-changing ocean all come together to create a series of images that are both visually stunning and emotionally resonant. This shoot was more than just a creative project—it was a celebration of individuality, the natural world, and the power of self-expression.

Conclusion: The Magic of Bean Hollow State Beach

Bean Hollow State Beach proved to be the perfect location for this photoshoot, offering a unique blend of rugged beauty and serene landscapes. The combination of the model’s powerful presence and the breathtaking setting resulted in a series of images that are both captivating and deeply meaningful.

Find Your Beach Wedding Photographer: Tips on how to find a legit photographer

How to Find the Best Photographer for Your Beach Wedding

Your beach wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and capturing the beauty, emotion, and magic of the day is essential. The right photographer can preserve these moments in a way that you’ll cherish forever. But with so many photographers out there, how do you find the one who’s perfect for your beach wedding? Here’s a guide to help you choose a photographer who will not only meet your expectations but exceed them.

1. Understand Your Style

Before you start searching for a photographer, it’s important to understand your own style and what you want your wedding photos to look like. Beach weddings can be captured in various styles, from light and airy to vibrant and colorful, or even moody and dramatic. Do you prefer candid shots that capture raw emotions, or are you drawn to more posed, editorial-style images?

Browse through wedding blogs, Pinterest, and Instagram to gather inspiration and identify the style that resonates with you. Having a clear vision will help you communicate your preferences to potential photographers and ensure you’re both on the same page.

2. Look for Experience with Beach Weddings

Beach weddings present unique challenges, such as changing light, reflections off the water, and unpredictable weather. It’s important to choose a photographer who has experience with beach weddings and understands how to work with these elements to create stunning images.

When reviewing portfolios, look specifically for beach wedding galleries. Pay attention to how the photographer handles natural light, captures the scenery, and integrates the couple into the environment. Experience with beach settings will make a big difference in the quality of your photos.

3. Read Reviews and Testimonials

Client reviews and testimonials are invaluable when selecting a photographer. They provide insight into the photographer’s professionalism, reliability, and ability to deliver high-quality results. Look for reviews that mention how the photographer handled the beach environment, their ability to make the couple feel comfortable, and their overall approach to the wedding day.

Don’t just rely on testimonials on the photographer’s website—check third-party review sites, social media, and wedding forums to get a well-rounded perspective.

4. Schedule a Consultation

Once you’ve narrowed down your options, schedule consultations with your top choices. This is your opportunity to get to know the photographer, discuss your vision, and see if your personalities mesh. A beach wedding often involves close interaction between the couple and the photographer, so it’s important that you feel comfortable and trust their expertise.

During the consultation, ask questions about their experience with beach weddings, their approach to capturing candid moments, and how they handle challenges like unpredictable weather or changing light. A good photographer will be able to put your mind at ease and show genuine enthusiasm for your wedding.

5. Review Their Equipment and Backup Plans

A professional photographer should be well-prepared for any situation, especially in a beach setting where conditions can change quickly. Ask about the equipment they use and whether they have backup gear in case of technical issues. For example, having the right lenses for different lighting conditions and a sturdy camera to handle the elements is crucial.

Inquire about their backup plans for inclement weather. While you hope for perfect sunshine, it’s important to know that your photographer has contingency plans in place to ensure your day is still beautifully captured, rain or shine.

6. Consider Their Editing Style

Editing plays a significant role in the final look of your wedding photos. Some photographers prefer a natural, minimal editing style, while others might enhance colors, add filters, or create a more stylized look. Review full galleries of past weddings to understand their editing process and how it aligns with your vision.

Ask about the turnaround time for receiving your edited photos and how many images you can expect. Clear communication about these details will help manage expectations and avoid surprises later on.

7. Evaluate Their Pricing and Packages

Wedding photography is an investment, so it’s important to understand the pricing and what’s included in the packages. Be upfront about your budget and ask for a detailed breakdown of costs, including any additional fees for travel, extra hours, or special requests.

Consider what’s most important to you—whether it’s having a second shooter, a custom photo album, or high-resolution digital files. The cheapest option isn’t always the best; look for a photographer whose package offers the best value for your needs and priorities.

8. Trust Your Instincts

While research and reviews are essential, trusting your instincts is equally important. You’ll be spending one of the most important days of your life with this person, so it’s crucial that you feel a genuine connection and trust in their ability to capture your wedding day beautifully.

If you feel comfortable, confident, and excited about working with a photographer, it’s a good sign that they’re the right choice for you.

Conclusion

Choosing the best photographer for your beach wedding is a critical decision that will influence how you remember your special day for years to come. By understanding your style, reviewing portfolios, reading testimonials, and trusting your instincts, you can find a photographer who will capture the beauty, joy, and love of your wedding day in a way that’s uniquely you.

Ready to start planning your beach wedding photography? Whether you're looking for light and airy images, candid moments, or something in between, I'm here to help you capture your day in all its beauty. Let’s connect and make your beach wedding photography dreams a reality!

Planning Your Dream Destination Beach Wedding: a Step-by-step Guide

How to Plan Your Dream Destination Beach Wedding: A Step-by-Step Guide

A destination beach wedding is the epitome of romance—a celebration of love set against the stunning backdrop of the ocean, with the sun shining and the waves gently lapping at the shore. But while the idea of a beach wedding might seem effortlessly beautiful, planning one requires careful thought and organization. From choosing the perfect location to ensuring your guests have a fantastic experience, there are many factors to consider. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you plan the destination beach wedding of your dreams.

Kyndra and Juan at their Cancune wedding. Photo by Alexandria’s Photography

1. Choosing the Perfect Beach Location

The first and most crucial step in planning your beach wedding is selecting the perfect location. Consider what kind of beach setting aligns with your vision—do you want a secluded, private beach, or do you prefer a popular destination with easy access for guests? Think about the climate, accessibility, and the natural beauty of the area.

Popular beach wedding destinations include the Caribbean, Hawaii, the Amalfi Coast, and the Greek Islands, but don’t overlook lesser-known gems that might offer more privacy and unique charm. The location pictured above is Dreams Jade in Cancun. It’s an all inclusive resort that not only did I enjoy photographing at, but loved staying at! Visit your chosen destination beforehand if possible, and work with local vendors to get a feel for the location.

2. Timing Is Everything: Selecting the Date and Time

When planning a beach wedding, timing is everything. Consider the best time of year for the destination you’ve chosen, taking into account the weather, tourist season, and tides. Off-season dates might offer better prices and fewer crowds, but make sure to avoid hurricane or monsoon seasons if applicable.

For the time of day, early morning or late afternoon (around sunset) are ideal for beach weddings. The light is softer and more flattering, and the temperatures are cooler, making it more comfortable for you and your guests.

March is the perfect time for a beach wedding at Dreams Jade’s Cancun location! If you go during August, you will come face to face with turtle hatchlings.

3. Navigating the Legalities

Every destination has its own set of legal requirements for weddings, so it’s important to research what’s needed well in advance. This might include obtaining marriage licenses, permits for beach ceremonies, and adhering to local customs or restrictions. Working with a local wedding planner who understands the legalities can make this process smoother and ensure that everything is in order.

4. Designing the Perfect Beach Ceremony

A beach wedding allows for a more relaxed and intimate ceremony, but it’s important to plan the details to create a magical atmosphere. Consider the following:

  • Altar Setup: Whether it’s a simple arch adorned with flowers, a canopy of fabric blowing in the wind, or a natural setup with just the ocean as your backdrop, choose a design that complements the beach setting.

  • Seating Arrangements: Offer comfortable seating for your guests, keeping in mind that sand can be tricky for some. Wooden benches, folding chairs, or even blankets and cushions for a more casual vibe can work well.

  • Sound System: The sound of the waves is beautiful, but it can also drown out your vows. Consider renting a sound system or having a small microphone setup to ensure everyone can hear the ceremony.

5. Attire for You and Your Guests

Choosing what to wear for a beach wedding involves balancing style with practicality. For the bride, consider a dress that is lightweight and flows easily—something that will move beautifully in the ocean breeze. Avoid heavy fabrics and elaborate trains that could get caught in the sand.

For the groom, lightweight suits or even linen pants with a crisp shirt can look stylish while being comfortable. Encourage your guests to dress for the environment—light, airy clothing and comfortable footwear (or barefoot options) will ensure everyone enjoys the day.

6. Planning the Reception

A beach wedding reception can be as formal or casual as you like, depending on your style. Consider an alfresco dining setup with long tables adorned with coastal-inspired decor, or a more relaxed picnic-style affair with blankets and cushions on the sand.

Keep the menu light and fresh, featuring local seafood, tropical fruits, and refreshing cocktails. Remember to account for wind and heat when planning the menu—opt for foods that can withstand outdoor conditions.

For entertainment, think about incorporating local music or a DJ who can play beach-friendly tunes. A bonfire, tiki torches, and string lights can create a magical ambiance as the sun sets.

7. Guest Experience and Travel Planning

Your guests are traveling to share in your special day, so it’s important to make their experience as seamless and enjoyable as possible. Provide clear information on travel arrangements, accommodation options, and local activities.

Consider organizing group activities like a welcome dinner, beach games, or a boat trip to make the most of the destination. Providing welcome bags with essentials like sunscreen, water bottles, and local treats is a thoughtful touch.

8. Capturing the Moment: Photography and Videography

The beauty of a beach wedding is in the details—the golden light, the natural surroundings, and the candid moments shared between you and your guests. Hiring an experienced photographer who understands how to work with natural light and capture the essence of the beach setting is essential.

Consider scheduling a separate "golden hour" photo session after the ceremony to take advantage of the best lighting. A videographer can also capture the sound of the waves, the laughter, and the heartfelt vows, preserving your memories in motion.

9. Backup Plans: Prepare for the Unexpected

While we all hope for perfect weather, it’s important to have a backup plan in case of rain, strong winds, or other unforeseen circumstances. Consider renting a tent or reserving an indoor space nearby as a contingency. Communicate any potential changes clearly with your guests to ensure everyone is on the same page.

10. Relax and Enjoy Your Day

With all the planning in place, the most important thing to remember is to relax and enjoy your day. A destination beach wedding is a celebration of your love in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable. Take a moment to soak it all in—the sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun, and the joy of being surrounded by your loved ones as you begin this new chapter together.

Conclusion

Planning a destination beach wedding may require careful thought and organization, but the reward is a day filled with beauty, romance, and unforgettable memories. By following these steps and focusing on the details that matter most to you, you can create the wedding of your dreams in a setting that is as timeless as your love.

Why Every Woman Should Experience a Boudoir Photoshoot

Boudoir photography is more than just a trend; it's a powerful experience that every woman should consider trying at least once in her lifetime. Often misunderstood, boudoir photography is about embracing your beauty, celebrating your body, and capturing the confidence that comes from self-love and acceptance. Whether you're curious about the process or feeling hesitant, this blog will explore why a boudoir photoshoot is an empowering experience and why it's worth stepping out of your comfort zone.

The Empowering Experience of Boudoir Photography

At its core, boudoir photography is about capturing your unique beauty in an intimate and artistic way. It's an opportunity to see yourself in a new light—one that highlights your strength, femininity, and self-assurance. For many women, the experience of a boudoir photoshoot is transformative, allowing them to connect with their bodies and their sense of self in ways they may not have before.

Boudoir photography is not about conforming to societal standards of beauty; it’s about celebrating who you are, exactly as you are. The process is designed to make you feel confident, empowered, and beautiful. When you step in front of the camera, you're not just posing for photos—you're embracing your story, your journey, and the woman you’ve become.

Addressing Common Fears and Misconceptions

Despite the benefits, many women feel apprehensive about booking a boudoir photoshoot. Here are some common fears and misconceptions, and why you shouldn’t let them hold you back:

1. "I’m not photogenic."
Many women worry that they won’t look good in photos, but the truth is, everyone is photogenic when captured by a skilled photographer. Your photographer’s job is to guide you through poses that flatter your body and highlight your best features. With the right lighting, angles, and direction, you’ll be amazed at how stunning you look.

2. "I’m not in the best shape."
Boudoir photography is not about having the “perfect” body; it’s about celebrating the body you have. Every woman, regardless of size, shape, or age, deserves to feel beautiful and confident. Boudoir photography is a way to honor your body and all it has done for you. It’s about embracing your curves, your lines, and your unique beauty.

3. "It’s too revealing."
Boudoir photography is about what makes you feel comfortable. It doesn’t have to be overly revealing if that’s not your style. You can wear anything from lingerie to a favorite dress, a cozy sweater, or even a simple sheet. The focus is on capturing your essence and confidence, not on how much skin you show.

4. "I’m nervous about being vulnerable."
It’s natural to feel nervous before a boudoir shoot, but remember that this is a judgment-free zone. Your photographer is there to support you and create a safe, comfortable environment where you can be yourself. Many women find that the experience is not just about the photos, but about the journey of self-discovery and empowerment.

5. "It’s only for younger women."
Boudoir photography is for women of all ages. Whether you’re in your 20s, 40s, 60s, or beyond, this experience is about celebrating your beauty at every stage of life. Many women find that they appreciate and love their bodies more as they get older, and a boudoir shoot is a wonderful way to capture that self-love.

Why You Should Try Boudoir Photography

Every woman deserves to feel confident, beautiful, and empowered. Boudoir photography offers a unique opportunity to see yourself in a new way, to celebrate your body and your journey, and to create lasting memories that remind you of your strength and beauty. Whether you're marking a milestone, celebrating a personal achievement, or simply wanting to embrace your confidence, a boudoir photoshoot is a powerful way to do so.

The images you receive are more than just photos—they’re a reflection of the confidence and beauty that lies within you. They serve as a reminder of your power, your courage, and your ability to embrace who you are.
