Choosing the Perfect Dress for your Beach wedding
The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Perfect Beach Wedding Dress
Planning a beach wedding is all about embracing the beauty of nature, the romance of the ocean, and the relaxed, carefree vibe that comes with saying "I do" by the sea. One of the most exciting (and sometimes challenging) parts of planning your beach wedding is choosing the perfect dress. Unlike traditional wedding venues, a beach setting offers unique considerations that can influence your choice of gown. Here’s a guide to help you find the beach wedding dress of your dreams.
1. Embrace Light and Airy Fabrics
When it comes to beach weddings, the fabric of your dress is key. The best beach wedding dresses are made from light, breathable materials that will keep you cool and comfortable, even in warm weather. Consider fabrics like chiffon, organza, tulle, or lightweight lace that flow beautifully in the ocean breeze and won’t weigh you down.
Avoid heavy fabrics like satin or brocade, which can feel too hot and cumbersome for a beach setting. Instead, opt for materials that move with you, creating an effortless, ethereal look as you walk down the sandy aisle.
2. Choose a Style That Suits the Setting
The relaxed atmosphere of a beach wedding calls for a dress that complements the environment. While ball gowns with long trains are stunning, they might not be the most practical choice for a beach ceremony. Instead, consider these styles:
A-Line Dresses: This classic silhouette is flattering on many body types and provides a flowing, elegant look that suits the beach perfectly.
Sheath Dresses: For a sleek, modern look, a sheath dress can be a great option. It’s simple, sophisticated, and easy to move in—ideal for a beach setting.
Bohemian Styles: If your beach wedding has a boho vibe, consider a dress with lace details, off-the-shoulder sleeves, or a relaxed fit. These elements create a laid-back, romantic look that’s perfect for a seaside celebration.
Tea-Length Dresses: A shorter, tea-length dress can be a fun and practical choice, especially if you plan to walk barefoot in the sand. It’s also a great option for showcasing stylish sandals or barefoot jewelry.
3. Think About the Color Palette
While traditional white or ivory dresses are always a beautiful choice, a beach wedding offers the opportunity to explore a wider color palette. Soft pastels, blush tones, or even light blue or champagne can add a unique and personal touch to your look, complementing the natural colors of the ocean and sand.
If you’re drawn to more vibrant colors, consider incorporating them into your accessories, such as a sash, floral crown, or jewelry, to add a pop of personality while keeping the overall look cohesive with the beach theme.
4. Consider Practicality: Length and Train
When selecting a beach wedding dress, practicality is just as important as style. Walking through sand can be tricky, especially if you’re wearing a long, heavy gown. Consider dresses with shorter hemlines or a detachable train that you can remove after the ceremony for easier movement.
If you do opt for a dress with a train, make sure it’s a manageable length, and consider a bustle or loop that allows you to lift the train off the ground during the reception. This way, you can enjoy your day without worrying about dragging your dress through the sand.
5. Pay Attention to the Details
The details of your dress can make all the difference in creating the perfect beach wedding look. Consider elements that add to the overall beachy vibe:
Lace and Embroidery: Delicate lace patterns, especially those with floral or seaside motifs, can enhance the romantic, natural feel of a beach wedding.
Backless or Off-the-Shoulder Designs: These styles not only look stunning but also help keep you cool in the sun. A backless dress, in particular, can add a touch of drama and elegance.
Flowing Sleeves or Capes: Light, flowing sleeves or a cape that catches the ocean breeze can create a beautiful, ethereal effect in your photos.
6. Don’t Forget About the Wind
Beaches are known for their breezes, and while a light wind can create beautiful movement in your dress, you’ll want to be prepared for stronger gusts. To avoid any wardrobe malfunctions, consider a dress that’s fitted at the top, especially if you’re opting for a strapless or off-the-shoulder style. This will help keep everything in place while still allowing the skirt to flow freely.
7. Accessorize Thoughtfully
The right accessories can enhance your beach wedding dress without overpowering it. Consider the following:
Veil or Hair Accessories: If you’re wearing a veil, choose a lightweight option that won’t get caught in the wind. Alternatively, a floral crown, hair vine, or simple hairpins can add a touch of elegance without the hassle of managing a veil.
Footwear: Many brides choose to go barefoot for a beach wedding, which can add to the relaxed, natural feel. If you prefer footwear, opt for flat sandals or barefoot sandals that won’t sink into the sand.
Jewelry: Keep it simple and elegant. Delicate pieces that reflect the ocean, like pearls or shells, can tie your look together without being too heavy or distracting.
8. Test Your Dress in the Elements
Before the big day, it’s a good idea to do a trial run with your dress in a similar outdoor setting. Walk around in it, sit, and see how it moves with you. This will give you a feel for how the dress will perform on the beach and allow you to make any necessary adjustments, such as altering the hemline or securing loose elements.
Conclusion
Choosing the perfect beach wedding dress is all about finding a balance between style, comfort, and practicality. By selecting a dress that complements the natural beauty of your beach setting, you’ll not only look stunning but also feel at ease as you say "I do" with the sand between your toes and the ocean as your backdrop.
Whether you’re drawn to a bohemian look, a sleek modern style, or a classic silhouette, there’s a beach wedding dress out there that’s perfect for you. Take your time, try on different styles, and most importantly, choose a dress that makes you feel beautiful and confident on your special day.

Nestled along the rugged coastline of California, Bean Hollow State Beach is a hidden gem that offers a stunning backdrop for any photoshoot. Recently, I had the privilege of capturing a series of images at this breathtaking location, working with a model whose striking tattoos and ethereal presence perfectly complemented the raw beauty of the beach. The combination of dramatic rock formations, the soft golden sand, and the serene waves created a setting that was both powerful and serene—a perfect match for the theme of this shoot.
The Location: Bean Hollow State Beach
Bean Hollow State Beach, located in San Mateo County, is known for its unique rock formations, tide pools, and pebble-strewn sands. Unlike more crowded beaches, Bean Hollow offers a sense of seclusion and intimacy, making it an ideal spot for a photoshoot that aims to capture the natural beauty of both the model and the landscape.
The beach’s rocky outcrops provided a dynamic contrast to the model’s flowing green dress, creating a sense of movement and grace against the rugged backdrop. The overcast sky lent a soft, diffused light that highlighted the model’s intricate tattoos, adding depth and texture to the images.
The Photoshoot: Celebrating Strength and Natural Beauty
This photoshoot was designed to celebrate the strength, individuality, and natural beauty of the model. Her tattoos, which tell stories of personal significance, were a focal point of the shoot, symbolizing resilience and self-expression. The choice of Bean Hollow State Beach as the location was intentional—it’s a place where the power of nature is on full display, yet there’s a quiet serenity that invites introspection and connection with the environment.
The model’s green dress was chosen for its earthy tones, which blended beautifully with the natural surroundings. The dress’s flowing silhouette allowed for movement and freedom, echoing the fluidity of the ocean waves. Each pose was carefully selected to showcase the model’s form and the intricate details of her tattoos, while also capturing the raw energy of the beach.
In one of the standout images, the model stands against a rock, her hands resting lightly on the rough surface as she gazes out to sea. The composition of the shot emphasizes the contrast between the strength of the rock and the softness of her form, creating a powerful visual metaphor for the balance between strength and vulnerability.
The Experience: Connecting with Nature
One of the most rewarding aspects of this photoshoot was the deep connection to nature that both the model and I felt throughout the session. Bean Hollow State Beach, with its untouched beauty and peaceful atmosphere, provided the perfect setting for a shoot that was as much about the experience as it was about the final images.
As we moved through the beach, we were able to explore different perspectives—capturing the model standing tall against the rocks, reclining on the sand, and interacting with the water. The sound of the waves and the feel of the sand beneath our feet added an element of grounding to the shoot, reminding us of the power and beauty of the natural world.
The Final Images: A Fusion of Art and Nature
The final images from this photoshoot are a testament to the fusion of art and nature. Each photograph tells a story—not just of the model’s strength and beauty, but also of the connection between human expression and the environment. The muted tones of the beach and the vibrant colors of the model’s tattoos create a striking contrast, while the soft, diffused light adds an almost dreamlike quality to the images.
The textures of the rocks, the fluidity of the dress, and the ever-changing ocean all come together to create a series of images that are both visually stunning and emotionally resonant. This shoot was more than just a creative project—it was a celebration of individuality, the natural world, and the power of self-expression.

Find Your Beach Wedding Photographer: Tips on how to find a legit photographer
How to Find the Best Photographer for Your Beach Wedding
Your beach wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and capturing the beauty, emotion, and magic of the day is essential. The right photographer can preserve these moments in a way that you’ll cherish forever. But with so many photographers out there, how do you find the one who’s perfect for your beach wedding? Here’s a guide to help you choose a photographer who will not only meet your expectations but exceed them.
1. Understand Your Style
Before you start searching for a photographer, it’s important to understand your own style and what you want your wedding photos to look like. Beach weddings can be captured in various styles, from light and airy to vibrant and colorful, or even moody and dramatic. Do you prefer candid shots that capture raw emotions, or are you drawn to more posed, editorial-style images?
Browse through wedding blogs, Pinterest, and Instagram to gather inspiration and identify the style that resonates with you. Having a clear vision will help you communicate your preferences to potential photographers and ensure you’re both on the same page.
2. Look for Experience with Beach Weddings
Beach weddings present unique challenges, such as changing light, reflections off the water, and unpredictable weather. It’s important to choose a photographer who has experience with beach weddings and understands how to work with these elements to create stunning images.
When reviewing portfolios, look specifically for beach wedding galleries. Pay attention to how the photographer handles natural light, captures the scenery, and integrates the couple into the environment. Experience with beach settings will make a big difference in the quality of your photos.
3. Read Reviews and Testimonials
Client reviews and testimonials are invaluable when selecting a photographer. They provide insight into the photographer’s professionalism, reliability, and ability to deliver high-quality results. Look for reviews that mention how the photographer handled the beach environment, their ability to make the couple feel comfortable, and their overall approach to the wedding day.
Don’t just rely on testimonials on the photographer’s website—check third-party review sites, social media, and wedding forums to get a well-rounded perspective.
4. Schedule a Consultation
Once you’ve narrowed down your options, schedule consultations with your top choices. This is your opportunity to get to know the photographer, discuss your vision, and see if your personalities mesh. A beach wedding often involves close interaction between the couple and the photographer, so it’s important that you feel comfortable and trust their expertise.
During the consultation, ask questions about their experience with beach weddings, their approach to capturing candid moments, and how they handle challenges like unpredictable weather or changing light. A good photographer will be able to put your mind at ease and show genuine enthusiasm for your wedding.
5. Review Their Equipment and Backup Plans
A professional photographer should be well-prepared for any situation, especially in a beach setting where conditions can change quickly. Ask about the equipment they use and whether they have backup gear in case of technical issues. For example, having the right lenses for different lighting conditions and a sturdy camera to handle the elements is crucial.
Inquire about their backup plans for inclement weather. While you hope for perfect sunshine, it’s important to know that your photographer has contingency plans in place to ensure your day is still beautifully captured, rain or shine.
6. Consider Their Editing Style
Editing plays a significant role in the final look of your wedding photos. Some photographers prefer a natural, minimal editing style, while others might enhance colors, add filters, or create a more stylized look. Review full galleries of past weddings to understand their editing process and how it aligns with your vision.
Ask about the turnaround time for receiving your edited photos and how many images you can expect. Clear communication about these details will help manage expectations and avoid surprises later on.
7. Evaluate Their Pricing and Packages
Wedding photography is an investment, so it’s important to understand the pricing and what’s included in the packages. Be upfront about your budget and ask for a detailed breakdown of costs, including any additional fees for travel, extra hours, or special requests.
Consider what’s most important to you—whether it’s having a second shooter, a custom photo album, or high-resolution digital files. The cheapest option isn’t always the best; look for a photographer whose package offers the best value for your needs and priorities.
8. Trust Your Instincts
While research and reviews are essential, trusting your instincts is equally important. You’ll be spending one of the most important days of your life with this person, so it’s crucial that you feel a genuine connection and trust in their ability to capture your wedding day beautifully.
If you feel comfortable, confident, and excited about working with a photographer, it’s a good sign that they’re the right choice for you.
Conclusion
Choosing the best photographer for your beach wedding is a critical decision that will influence how you remember your special day for years to come. By understanding your style, reviewing portfolios, reading testimonials, and trusting your instincts, you can find a photographer who will capture the beauty, joy, and love of your wedding day in a way that’s uniquely you.

Planning Your Dream Destination Beach Wedding: a Step-by-step Guide
How to Plan Your Dream Destination Beach Wedding: A Step-by-Step Guide
A destination beach wedding is the epitome of romance—a celebration of love set against the stunning backdrop of the ocean, with the sun shining and the waves gently lapping at the shore. But while the idea of a beach wedding might seem effortlessly beautiful, planning one requires careful thought and organization. From choosing the perfect location to ensuring your guests have a fantastic experience, there are many factors to consider. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you plan the destination beach wedding of your dreams.
1. Choosing the Perfect Beach Location
The first and most crucial step in planning your beach wedding is selecting the perfect location. Consider what kind of beach setting aligns with your vision—do you want a secluded, private beach, or do you prefer a popular destination with easy access for guests? Think about the climate, accessibility, and the natural beauty of the area.
Popular beach wedding destinations include the Caribbean, Hawaii, the Amalfi Coast, and the Greek Islands, but don’t overlook lesser-known gems that might offer more privacy and unique charm. The location pictured above is Dreams Jade in Cancun. It’s an all inclusive resort that not only did I enjoy photographing at, but loved staying at! Visit your chosen destination beforehand if possible, and work with local vendors to get a feel for the location.
2. Timing Is Everything: Selecting the Date and Time
When planning a beach wedding, timing is everything. Consider the best time of year for the destination you’ve chosen, taking into account the weather, tourist season, and tides. Off-season dates might offer better prices and fewer crowds, but make sure to avoid hurricane or monsoon seasons if applicable.
For the time of day, early morning or late afternoon (around sunset) are ideal for beach weddings. The light is softer and more flattering, and the temperatures are cooler, making it more comfortable for you and your guests.
March is the perfect time for a beach wedding at Dreams Jade’s Cancun location! If you go during August, you will come face to face with turtle hatchlings.
3. Navigating the Legalities
Every destination has its own set of legal requirements for weddings, so it’s important to research what’s needed well in advance. This might include obtaining marriage licenses, permits for beach ceremonies, and adhering to local customs or restrictions. Working with a local wedding planner who understands the legalities can make this process smoother and ensure that everything is in order.
4. Designing the Perfect Beach Ceremony
A beach wedding allows for a more relaxed and intimate ceremony, but it’s important to plan the details to create a magical atmosphere. Consider the following:
Altar Setup: Whether it’s a simple arch adorned with flowers, a canopy of fabric blowing in the wind, or a natural setup with just the ocean as your backdrop, choose a design that complements the beach setting.
Seating Arrangements: Offer comfortable seating for your guests, keeping in mind that sand can be tricky for some. Wooden benches, folding chairs, or even blankets and cushions for a more casual vibe can work well.
Sound System: The sound of the waves is beautiful, but it can also drown out your vows. Consider renting a sound system or having a small microphone setup to ensure everyone can hear the ceremony.
5. Attire for You and Your Guests
Choosing what to wear for a beach wedding involves balancing style with practicality. For the bride, consider a dress that is lightweight and flows easily—something that will move beautifully in the ocean breeze. Avoid heavy fabrics and elaborate trains that could get caught in the sand.
For the groom, lightweight suits or even linen pants with a crisp shirt can look stylish while being comfortable. Encourage your guests to dress for the environment—light, airy clothing and comfortable footwear (or barefoot options) will ensure everyone enjoys the day.
6. Planning the Reception
A beach wedding reception can be as formal or casual as you like, depending on your style. Consider an alfresco dining setup with long tables adorned with coastal-inspired decor, or a more relaxed picnic-style affair with blankets and cushions on the sand.
Keep the menu light and fresh, featuring local seafood, tropical fruits, and refreshing cocktails. Remember to account for wind and heat when planning the menu—opt for foods that can withstand outdoor conditions.
For entertainment, think about incorporating local music or a DJ who can play beach-friendly tunes. A bonfire, tiki torches, and string lights can create a magical ambiance as the sun sets.
7. Guest Experience and Travel Planning
Your guests are traveling to share in your special day, so it’s important to make their experience as seamless and enjoyable as possible. Provide clear information on travel arrangements, accommodation options, and local activities.
Consider organizing group activities like a welcome dinner, beach games, or a boat trip to make the most of the destination. Providing welcome bags with essentials like sunscreen, water bottles, and local treats is a thoughtful touch.
8. Capturing the Moment: Photography and Videography
The beauty of a beach wedding is in the details—the golden light, the natural surroundings, and the candid moments shared between you and your guests. Hiring an experienced photographer who understands how to work with natural light and capture the essence of the beach setting is essential.
Consider scheduling a separate "golden hour" photo session after the ceremony to take advantage of the best lighting. A videographer can also capture the sound of the waves, the laughter, and the heartfelt vows, preserving your memories in motion.
9. Backup Plans: Prepare for the Unexpected
While we all hope for perfect weather, it’s important to have a backup plan in case of rain, strong winds, or other unforeseen circumstances. Consider renting a tent or reserving an indoor space nearby as a contingency. Communicate any potential changes clearly with your guests to ensure everyone is on the same page.
10. Relax and Enjoy Your Day
With all the planning in place, the most important thing to remember is to relax and enjoy your day. A destination beach wedding is a celebration of your love in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable. Take a moment to soak it all in—the sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun, and the joy of being surrounded by your loved ones as you begin this new chapter together.
Conclusion
Planning a destination beach wedding may require careful thought and organization, but the reward is a day filled with beauty, romance, and unforgettable memories. By following these steps and focusing on the details that matter most to you, you can create the wedding of your dreams in a setting that is as timeless as your love.

Why you should try a swimwear/boudoir photoshoot
Why Every Woman Should Experience a Boudoir Photoshoot
Boudoir photography is more than just a trend; it's a powerful experience that every woman should consider trying at least once in her lifetime. Often misunderstood, boudoir photography is about embracing your beauty, celebrating your body, and capturing the confidence that comes from self-love and acceptance. Whether you're curious about the process or feeling hesitant, this blog will explore why a boudoir photoshoot is an empowering experience and why it's worth stepping out of your comfort zone.
The Empowering Experience of Boudoir Photography
At its core, boudoir photography is about capturing your unique beauty in an intimate and artistic way. It's an opportunity to see yourself in a new light—one that highlights your strength, femininity, and self-assurance. For many women, the experience of a boudoir photoshoot is transformative, allowing them to connect with their bodies and their sense of self in ways they may not have before.
Boudoir photography is not about conforming to societal standards of beauty; it’s about celebrating who you are, exactly as you are. The process is designed to make you feel confident, empowered, and beautiful. When you step in front of the camera, you're not just posing for photos—you're embracing your story, your journey, and the woman you’ve become.
Addressing Common Fears and Misconceptions
Despite the benefits, many women feel apprehensive about booking a boudoir photoshoot. Here are some common fears and misconceptions, and why you shouldn’t let them hold you back:
1. "I’m not photogenic."
Many women worry that they won’t look good in photos, but the truth is, everyone is photogenic when captured by a skilled photographer. Your photographer’s job is to guide you through poses that flatter your body and highlight your best features. With the right lighting, angles, and direction, you’ll be amazed at how stunning you look.
2. "I’m not in the best shape."
Boudoir photography is not about having the “perfect” body; it’s about celebrating the body you have. Every woman, regardless of size, shape, or age, deserves to feel beautiful and confident. Boudoir photography is a way to honor your body and all it has done for you. It’s about embracing your curves, your lines, and your unique beauty.

Boudoir photography is about what makes you feel comfortable. It doesn’t have to be overly revealing if that’s not your style. You can wear anything from lingerie to a favorite dress, a cozy sweater, or even a simple sheet. The focus is on capturing your essence and confidence, not on how much skin you show.
4. "I’m nervous about being vulnerable."
It’s natural to feel nervous before a boudoir shoot, but remember that this is a judgment-free zone. Your photographer is there to support you and create a safe, comfortable environment where you can be yourself. Many women find that the experience is not just about the photos, but about the journey of self-discovery and empowerment.
5. "It’s only for younger women."
Boudoir photography is for women of all ages. Whether you’re in your 20s, 40s, 60s, or beyond, this experience is about celebrating your beauty at every stage of life. Many women find that they appreciate and love their bodies more as they get older, and a boudoir shoot is a wonderful way to capture that self-love.
Why You Should Try Boudoir Photography
Every woman deserves to feel confident, beautiful, and empowered. Boudoir photography offers a unique opportunity to see yourself in a new way, to celebrate your body and your journey, and to create lasting memories that remind you of your strength and beauty. Whether you're marking a milestone, celebrating a personal achievement, or simply wanting to embrace your confidence, a boudoir photoshoot is a powerful way to do so.

They serve as a reminder of your power, your courage, and your ability to embrace who you are. Every time you look at them, you’ll be reminded of that moment when you chose to step out of your comfort zone and celebrate yourself.

It’s a chance to honor yourself, to embrace your beauty, and to experience a transformative journey that will leave you feeling empowered and confident. Boudoir photography is not just about the photos; it’s about the experience, the confidence you gain, and the memories you create.

The process is about feeling good in your skin and expressing your inner confidence, which will shine through in the photos.
Preparing for Your Beach Boudoir Shoot
Preparing for a beach boudoir shoot is as much about getting into the right mindset as it is about choosing the perfect outfit. Here are some tips to help you get ready:
1. Choose Outfits That Make You Feel Amazing:
Select outfits that you feel comfortable and confident in. Whether it’s a delicate piece of lingerie, a flowing cover-up, or a simple swimsuit, your clothing should make you feel good about yourself. Consider the colors and styles that best reflect your personality and complement the beach setting.
2. Pamper Yourself Before the Shoot:
Treat yourself to a little self-care before the shoot. Whether it’s a spa day, a fresh manicure, or just some quiet time to relax, taking care of yourself will help you feel more confident and prepared. Feeling good on the inside will reflect in your photos.
3. Trust Your Photographer:
A key part of a successful boudoir shoot is trusting your photographer. Their job is to guide you through the process, help you with poses, and ensure you feel comfortable throughout the session. Remember, they’re there to highlight your best features and capture your beauty in a way that feels true to you.
4. Focus on Your Breathing and Posture:
It’s natural to feel a little nervous at the beginning of a boudoir shoot, but focusing on your breathing can help you relax. Take deep, calming breaths and remember to stand tall. Good posture not only looks great on camera but also helps boost your confidence.
5. Embrace the Elements:
One of the joys of beach boudoir photography is the natural setting. Embrace the elements—the wind in your hair, the sand beneath your feet, the sun on your skin. These natural elements add a dynamic quality to your photos, making them feel alive and authentic.
The Transformative Experience
Beach boudoir photography is not just about the final images—it’s about the journey you take during the shoot. Many clients find the experience to be transformative, as it allows them to see themselves in a new, empowered light. Stepping outside of your comfort zone and allowing yourself to be vulnerable in front of the camera can be a powerful way to boost your self-esteem and reconnect with your body.
The images you receive after the shoot will serve as a reminder of this confidence. They’ll capture not just your physical beauty, but also the strength and courage it took to embrace yourself fully. These photos become a celebration of who you are at this moment, creating memories that you’ll cherish for years to come.
Conclusion
The art of beach boudoir photography is about much more than just taking pictures—it’s about celebrating your body, embracing your confidence, and capturing the natural beauty within you. Whether you’re doing it for yourself or as a gift for someone special, a beach boudoir shoot is a transformative experience that allows you to see yourself in a new, empowering way.

What to Wear to a Beach Photoshoot: Tips From a Beach Photographer
What to Wear to a Beach Photoshoot: Tips from That Beachy Photographer
When it comes to beach photoshoots, what you wear can make all the difference in capturing the perfect shot. As someone who has spent countless hours behind the lens, I’ve learned that the right outfit can enhance the natural beauty of the beach setting and help you feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera. Whether you’re preparing for your first beach photoshoot or looking to elevate your next session, here are some tips on what to wear to make your beach photoshoot a success.
1. Embrace the Elements: Light, Flowing Fabrics
The beach is all about movement—the gentle breeze, the rolling waves, the shifting sand. Your outfit should reflect this sense of fluidity. Light, flowing fabrics like chiffon, linen, and cotton not only look beautiful in photos but also catch the wind in a way that adds movement and grace to your shots. Think maxi dresses, flowy skirts, and oversized shirts that can flutter in the breeze and create a dreamy, ethereal effect.
2. Colors That Complement the Scenery
The beach offers a stunning natural backdrop with its mix of blues, beiges, and greens. To make the most of this setting, choose colors that complement rather than clash with the environment. Soft pastels, earthy tones, and whites work beautifully against the sand and sea, enhancing the natural beauty of the surroundings. If you want to add a pop of color, go for shades that still harmonize with the beach palette, like coral, turquoise, or sun-kissed yellows.
3. Consider the Time of Day
The time of day can significantly impact the lighting and mood of your photos, and your outfit should be chosen accordingly. For early morning or late afternoon shoots, when the light is soft and golden, lighter shades and pastel colors will create a serene and harmonious look. For midday shoots, when the sun is brighter, consider wearing slightly bolder colors that can stand out without being too harsh.
4. Play with Layers and Textures
Layering isn’t just for colder weather—it can add depth and interest to your beach photos, even in the heat. Consider adding a lightweight cardigan, a denim jacket, or a gauzy wrap that you can drape over your shoulders or let flow behind you. Textured fabrics like lace, crochet, or eyelet can also add visual interest without overwhelming the simplicity of the beach setting.
5. Accessorize Thoughtfully
Accessories can enhance your outfit, but less is often more when it comes to beach photoshoots. Opt for delicate jewelry that catches the light without being too distracting. Wide-brimmed hats, straw bags, and sunglasses can add a chic touch while also being functional. If you’re planning to get your feet wet, consider going barefoot—there’s something timeless and natural about bare feet in the sand.
6. Don’t Forget About Hair and Makeup
Your hair and makeup should complement your outfit and the beach environment. Soft, natural waves or a loose updo are great options that work well with the beach’s casual vibe. For makeup, stick to natural tones with a bit of shimmer to catch the light. Remember, the beach is all about a relaxed, effortless look, so avoid anything too heavy or dramatic.
7. Confidence Is Key
Above all, wear something that makes you feel good. Confidence shines through in photos, and if you feel comfortable and beautiful in what you’re wearing, it will show. Whether you’re rocking a bohemian maxi dress, a chic swimsuit, or a simple pair of denim shorts and a tee, the most important thing is that you feel like yourself.
Conclusion
A beach photoshoot is a unique opportunity to capture the beauty of both the natural environment and your personal style. By choosing outfits that reflect the movement, colors, and mood of the beach, you can create stunning photos that you’ll cherish for years to come. As your go-to beach photographer, I’ve seen firsthand how the right clothing can elevate a photoshoot, so take these tips to heart, and let’s make magic happen on the sand!

Summer of Self Love
The Best Summer Activity You Need to Add to Your Calendar: A Beach Boudoir/Swimwear Photoshoot
Summer is all about soaking up the sun, enjoying the beach, and embracing new experiences. While many of us spend the season planning weekend getaways, beach days, and fun with friends, there’s one activity that perfectly captures the spirit of self-love and adventure—beach boudoir and swimwear photoshoots. If you’re looking to add a meaningful, confidence-boosting experience to your summer plans next year, this trend is one you won’t want to miss.
Why Self-Love Deserves a Place on Your Summer Calendar
Summer has always been about unwinding and feeling good in your own skin. But why not take that one step further? A beach boudoir or swimwear photoshoot is an incredible way to practice self-love in a new, bold way. It’s more than just posing in front of a camera; it’s a celebration of who you are, exactly as you are.
The beach is the perfect backdrop for embracing your natural beauty. The openness of the ocean, the warmth of the sand, and the glow of the sun all create an environment that feels freeing and empowering. This isn’t about trying to fit into any standards—it's about showing up for yourself and capturing your confidence in a setting that truly reflects your radiant summer self.
The Perfect Summer Activity: More Than Just a Photoshoot
While you might be used to hitting the beach for some sun and relaxation, why not make your time there even more meaningful? A beach photoshoot is not just about the pictures; it’s about the experience. The thrill of stepping out of your comfort zone, the joy of embracing the elements, and the confidence that builds as you play in front of the camera—all of it creates an unforgettable day at the beach.
There’s something about the connection between the ocean and self-reflection. Just like the waves, self-love can ebb and flow. A beach boudoir or swimwear shoot allows you to capture those moments of strength, joy, and pure freedom, giving you a chance to see yourself in a whole new light. Plus, it’s an activity that combines the best of what summer offers—sunshine, adventure, and, most importantly, the chance to feel amazing in your own skin.
Why You Should Plan One for Next Summer
Next summer is the perfect opportunity to put yourself at the top of your priority list. With the body positivity movement continuing to grow, there’s no better time to honor your body and celebrate the journey you’re on. A beach boudoir or swimwear photoshoot can be a powerful way to mark this chapter in your life, capturing your inner strength, beauty, and confidence.
Whether you want to create memories of a special time in your life, embrace a new chapter, or simply treat yourself to an unforgettable experience, this shoot is a beautiful way to do it. It's an empowering and liberating activity that fits perfectly into the carefree, fun spirit of summer. Imagine spending the day feeling the warm sun on your skin, the cool ocean breeze in your hair, and then walking away with stunning photos that reflect just how incredible you truly are.
How to Make It Happen
If you’re already dreaming about your next summer plans, here’s how you can make your beach boudoir or swimwear photoshoot an experience to remember:
Start Planning Early: Choosing the perfect location and booking your photographer in advance ensures your summer activity is as stress-free and fun as possible.
Prepare to Be Unapologetically You: This shoot is all about celebrating your authentic self, so show up as you are! From simple swimwear to more daring looks, let your personality shine.
Embrace the Elements: Let the natural beauty of the beach work in your favor. Windblown hair, sandy feet, and sun-kissed skin only add to the magic of your photos.
Make It a Day to Remember: Bring along friends for moral support, or treat yourself to a solo adventure. Either way, make the whole experience about pampering yourself and having fun.
Conclusion
Summer is the season of freedom, joy, and self-expression, and there’s no better way to celebrate that than with a beach boudoir or swimwear photoshoot. It’s not just about the pictures—it’s about the experience of embracing your body, your confidence, and the natural beauty around you. This summer activity should be at the top of your list for next year, as it offers more than just a memorable day at the beach—it offers the chance to connect with yourself in a deeply meaningful way.
So next summer, add something truly special to your calendar: a celebration of you, your self-love, and your unique beauty. Dive into this new trend, and let the sun, sea, and sand help you create lasting memories that will leave you feeling empowered long after the waves wash away.

Mermaid Photoshoot with Marine Biologist
Do you LOVE California’s nature? Have you explored Northern California? If you haven’t, you should!
I’m not going to lie, I was skeptical about the weather while driving out to this beach photoshoot, BUT, it turned out perfect!
My client is a Marine Biologist so I suggested this location: Hearts Desire Beach in Inverness. Heart’s Desire is equipped with grills, picnic benches, a pretty decent bathroom, rock walls, and dreamy moss covered coastal trees. The wate is ankle deep during low tide, which is the majority of the day, and not even knee deep during high tide. This spot is child safe, filled with sea life like sea anemones, the cutest crabs, and teeny tiny snails in spiral shells.
There is even a floating wooden dock you can pull in to get on and then push off to float out with your friends.
Here’s some more photos in this location!

How to work with real models as a beginner photographer
Want to watch this as a video instead? Subscribe to my youtube and watch this video here!
Step one: Build some sort of portrait portfolio! Ask your friends and family if you can use them as models. If none of your friends and family are willing to work with you, or if they just aren’t cutting it anymore, head over to facebook! You’re going to search up your location and model and photographer groups! You’re then going to do what we call a “model call.” You will post what type of photoshoot you want to do, within what time frame, the type of model you want to work with, and in what locations.
Step two: Find Agencies! This part is super easy, all you have to do is do a quick google search and then go to the agency websites and find an email, a new faces or director email to reach out to!
step three: Email the Agencies! Here is exactly what I said in my email, just insert your own info!
Hello so and so,
I’m Alexandria, a Bay Area local photographer specializing in outdoor boudoir and swimwear portraiture. I would love the opportunity to test shoot with a few of your new faces, preferrably adult female.
I am available from this date to this date and am planning the locations to be at either this place or this place. I can provide some wardrobe depending on sizing.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
Alexandria Denison
Photographer
Then I inserted some of my best photos!
And that is how I got over 100 options of models in my area to collaborate with!
What To Wear To Your Photoshoot: Building Your Portfolio As A Model
Building your portfolio as a model is difficult, especially if you don’t know where to start! The good news is, the best place to start is probably the most simple!
Most agencies looking for new faces want to see you in your raw form, this means keeping thing extremely simple. Your first photoshoot should be simple with a black or white tank top, jeans or matching pants, and simple tenni shoes. This doesn’t have to be done in a studio, you can do this outside in even shade and against a wall! If you have hair it should be down to start so that they can see your natural hair and then slick it back so that they can see the full shape of your face. You should get multiple angles of the front and back so that they are able to see all sides of you!
After your first very simple photoshoot, you should still keep things pretty simple. I like to think of a theme and re-create it but not right on the nose, like my little mermaid inspired photoshoot. It alludes to it just enough but isn’t too much.
You Don’t need a whole wardrobe, you just need basics! You can build your wardrobe as you go, a lot of models and photographers build up their wardrobe by shopping sales or thrift stores!
This all might sound sooo simple, but it’s true! If you want more help becoming a model or a photographer, check out my youtube channel! Click here
An underrated San Francisco Beach: Fort Funston
Fort Funston is an underrated beach with hiking paths, outlooks, cliffside views, and beach access great for regular day use, exercise, and photoshoots. It is safe, clean, free access and parking, and has cell reception. There are no formal restrooms, however, there are porta-poties!
Whether you are searching for a great beach without having to drive through San Francisco, just to enjoy the sunshine that is coming out, to celebrate a birthday, or for a photoshoot, Fort Funston is highly underrated and should be utilized more often!
Just south of San Francisco is Fort Funston, it sits just on the edge of the city and right before some colorful pink and yellow houses. And right next to Fort Funston is a beautiful coastal trail, this is why I think that Fort Funston is really underrated as a tourist attraction or even as a bay area local favorite!
Fort Funston features free parking, an observation deck, and multiple trails; three of which lead to the beach below. In addition to the views and hiking trails, visitors are encouraged to interact with nature as you can volunteer at the green house, go paragliding if you’re able, and there’s even a designated dog park marked off by cones! Dogs are welcome in the rest of the park as long as they are leashed!
This is also one of my favorite places to do photoshoots, since it is still a diamond in the rough and not as well known as other spots! Not only that, but SF’s Fort Funston has a unique landscape that is beautiful to photograph and worth a trip on its own!
Just down the street is another little parking lot where you will find Battery Davis trail, this is more of street parking, but here you will also find the Funston Horse trail if you are a horse fan, I say it is worth bringing out your big furry friend too!
Did I forget to mention that it is safe, clean, free to park and enter, and has perfect cell reception? I have been to this beach multiple times and have never seen a homeless person, very little trash, and there are porta-potties. I just recommend bringing your own hand sanitizer for after using the restroom!
Fort Funston is located on Skyline BLVD right across from the SF police dpt pistol rance and right next to lake merced, so maybe go take a trip to the lake merced boathouse after hiking around Fort Funston and getting your photoshoot done?
I mentioned that I love doing photoshoots here! Below you can see some of the photo shoots I’ve done at Fort Funston, and if you’re interested in booking, feel free to reach out by clicking here! Wondering how to become a model in San Francisco, Oakland, or the California Bay Area? I have a solution for you!
Wondering how to become a model in the bay area? I know how and in my model rep program I will teach you everything 10 years in the photography industry has taught me from what to wear, how to act, how to pose, to key words and tools you will need to get into the modeling industry!
Want to be a model but don’t know where to start? I do!
I’m not going to waste your time asking if you’ve been dreaming about being a model; if you have flipped through magazines at check out at the store; or if you follow all the top publishers and model agencies hoping to get noticed; the truth is, I already know you do, because if you didn’t do at least one of those things, you wouldn’t be here! And honestly, if at one point I didn’t either, I wouldn’t be writing this for you either!
No, I’m not going to waste your time, so let me introduce myself; I’m Alexandria, but since we will most likely be getting to know each other in the coming months, you can call me Alex! I’m a photographer, a female photographer!!! And I have over ten years of experience in directing women at all levels of modeling experience from no experience and no intention of becoming a model to real-life-already-been-published models! My whole goal with my photography is to help women of all ages, sizes, ethnicities, religious backgrounds, and belief systems to feel amazing while in front of the camera and to feel beautiful after seeing the outcome! In other words, my whole goal is to make women like you feel amazing while feeling comfortable and safe!
Okay, okay, I did say I wouldn’t waste your time, it’s just, I am sooooo excited to tell you about this amazing opportunity I have for you to get into the modeling world while building your portfolio, learning about modeling, improving your modeling, and making friends!!! By the end of the year, you’ll have learned all about being a model and have built a portfolio to present to agencies and recruiters! So what is this? Well… Its a really cool team I’ve decided to put together and I’m calling it the Beach Model Rep Team! Now, not allllll the photoshoots will be done on the beach, but I am all about the beach, so ofc, I had to add that in there for some flair!
So how it works: This is a monthly subscription with limited spots, so you need to act fast!! You will receive a portfolio gallery filled with your very best images from each photoshoot, direction throughout the photoshoots, wardrobe tips, and guaranteed placements in magazines for each photoshoot. Everyone gets to join in on a monthly zoom class to learn about posing, modeling topics and the modeling world. During each Zoom class you will also have the opportunity to review and learn from each photoshoot to keep improving. Zoom classes will be recorded and kept in a separate page on my website dedicate to the model rep team so that you can have access late if you miss one!
Each tier gets more perks than the last!
New face is a great way to dip your toes in and start small! you will get four photoshoots a year to help build your portfolio, access and participation in Zoom classes, and access to the Model rep page on my website!
Option two or Commercial Model includes EIGHT photoshoots a year, Zoom classes, the model rep page, AND 2 special group photoshoots that option 2 and 3 get to participate in as well as one fully styled photoshoot with hair and makeup provided!
Super model is the biggest and best option and includes TWELVE photoshoots a year, Zoom classes, the model rep page, AND 2 special group photoshoots that option 2 and 3 get to participate in as well as one fully styled photoshoot with hair and makeup provided! On top of all that, you get top tier perks including guaranteed cover on a magazine 4X a year, personalized advertising in facebook groups so that you can collaborate with other photographers, HMUA’s, and stylists, and a specialy birthday balloon photoshoot in time for your birthday! But, that isn’t all for the Super Model tier, you and your family will also receive 10% off any additional photoshoots you book!
Like I said, these are subscriptions, but they automatically expire after a year, so if you want to continue the program, you will have to sign up again!
Have you ever imagined such a dreamlike offer? And guess what? It gets even better when you consider the price! Normally, building a portfolio with high-quality, professional images would require years and a substantial investment, especially in a pricey area like the bay area. Typically, photographers here charge between $350 to $1,000 per shoot. With our packages, however, you can have 12 classes and photoshoots for just $60 each, making it much more affordable and convenient. And the best part? It's all wrapped up in a monthly subscription with tax included! The New Face Package is only $80 a month, the Commercial Model Package is $160 a month, and for the Super Model Package, it's just $220 a month!
